This statement on "Hawkeye's" guitar says so much. I would take a step further and say, "NO BLUES....NO POPULAR AMERICAN MUSIC...NO LIFE......" Now that's something everyone can appreciate....even elementary age students.

193 viewsA great reminder for a traveling minstrel. Note the scratches on his guitar from playing so much. I'd say that guitar has some blues in it!

203 viewsThe kids had fun writing a blues song with "Hawkeye". I think they learned that the blues isn't just sad music. It can actually be quite entertaining and fun.

192 views"Hawkeye" told the kids at the Grafton High School performance that he enjoyed putting stickers on his guitar case to show the places that he's been. This is his first Wisconsin sticker. And what better place to receive it than in Grafton, WI....

250 viewsThe principal, Mr. Oftedahl (in the green shirt), enjoyed the performance. Thanks to him, "Hawkeye" was very welcomed in Grafton. Mr. Perry (in the back on the right side) got a little lesson from "Hawkeye" afterward on how to play "The blues had a baby....and they called it rock and roll" on the guitar.

Son House Photo Montage254 viewsThese are from a superb 2005 photo book by Giuseppe Pino ... "Black & Blues" ... the book includes four CDs ... featuring Odetta, Albert King, Etta James, Charles Brown, Big Joe Turner, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Jimmy Witherspoon, John Lee Hooker, Lloyd Price, Lightnin' Hopkins, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, Roy Milton ... sorry, no Son House on the CDs ... but some great photos ... also nice photos of J.B. Lenoir, Clifton Chenier, Muddy, Jr. Wells, and many others.
